According to an article in Faulkner County: Its Land and People (FCIL&P), the first grave was of a child whose family was moving through this section of Faulkner County. The exact location of this grave is unknown. The first grave to be identified with a marker was that of John A Wofford (1841-1862, son of J L and J R Wofford.
In 1887, land was purchased from W M Reeder for the cemetery. The trustees at that time were W N Reed, H M Langston, and W S Hinson. An acre of land was purchased from J C Ethridge and a Baptist church was organized and built in about 1891. J Batson was the first preacher. Today, Freddie Mark Wilcox pastors the Bethlehem Baptist Church. The church and cemetery are located on Hwy 225 west of Greenbrier and north of Wooster in the Shady Grove community.
