John Freeman Young, 87 of DeWitt, Arkansas went to his heavenly home August 14, 2018. He was born on December 24, 1930 in DeWitt to Lillie and John Young Sr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Philip “Phil” Young, a grandson Christopher Money and a son –in-law Kenny Simpson.

John was a faithful member of Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Humphrey, Arkansas. He served in the US Navy from 1949-1953. He married Alma Patrick on December 26, 1950, in DeWitt where they made their home until 1969. They moved to Gillett opening his own business Young’s Refrigeration & Electric and retired in 1978. He was a charter member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon. In 1976 he joined the Gideon’s until he surrendered to Preach in 1994 at the age of 64. He attended the Seminary in Oxford, Mississippi graduating in May of 1998. After graduation he pastored in Gould, Ar. and later moved to Texarkana, AR to work at the Baptist Orphanage. He came back to DeWitt to pastor and later pastored in Clarendon and Humphrey until health reasons forced him to retire in January 2018.

He is survived by his wife Alma of 67 years, a son Monty Young (Tricia) of Gillett, two daughters, Sandra Mommsen (Johnny) of Almyra and Carol Barnes (John) of Wichita, KS. Five grandchildren Amber Simpson Kagebein of Stuttgart, Katie Simpson Sollars (Josh) of DeWitt, Rebecca Money Odom (Justin)of East Point, FL, Bart Young of Fayetteville and Rance Simpson (Carol) of DeWitt. Two great grandchildren Tyler Money of Wichita, KS and Ella Simpson of DeWitt.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. August 16 at Essex Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. August 17 at Unity Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to The Gideon’s International or the donor's choice.
