Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Essex Funeral Chapel for Merle Allen Whiting, 51-year-old Tichnor farmer who died at his home Saturday morning. The Rev. Rayford Diffie officiated and burial was in Cedar Crest Cemetery.
He was born on Feb. 11, 1921, in Tichnor.
Survivors include his wife, Madge Williams Whiting; one son, Allen Whiting of Tichnor; four brothers, Sam Whiting of Gillett, Press Whiting of DeWitt, and Lester and Buck Whiting, both of Tichnor.
Four sisters, Edna Plant, Hattie Thigpen and Luna Peterson, all of DeWitt, and Edith Long of Tichnor. Mr. Whiting was a member of the American Legion, and the Gillett Farmers and Businessmen's Club. He attended the Campshed Methodist Church and was a veteran of World War II.
