Helen Irene Vansandt, of DeWitt, AR was born on October 1, 1931. She went to be with her Lord on June 18, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Vansandt; her parents, Vernon and Mae Helen Smith; two brothers, Jimmy and Buddy Smith; and two sisters Barbara Jean Smith and Patsy Sanders. She is survived by her son Darryll Vansandt (Hazel) of DeWitt; daughters Sheila Harvey of Vilonia, AR, Marsha Burlack (Paul) of Gainsville, GA, Joyce Watson of Cordova, TN, and Sally Simpson (Larry) of DeWitt, AR; grandchildren Jason Harvey, John and David Bohannon, Nicole Kitchen, Russell Watson, Angela Foster and Ira Burlack; great grandchildren Aaron, Jessie, Alex, Maggie, Riley, Chloe, Bradley, Cassidy, Christian, and Charles.
Irene was a homemaker early in life living on a farm in Ethel, AR. Later she became a nurse and began working at Crestpark Nursing Home then moved to Stuttgart Hospital where she worked until retirement. Irene was a member of First Baptist Church of DeWitt. Irene was very active in the community, she was a member of the Home Extension Club and was a Master Gardner. She helped to start a 4-H club when her children were at home and continued in 4-H for many years becoming an outstanding leader in the county and state mentoring many club members throughout this time. Irene was a very caring person, her sweet laughter will be missed by her family and many dear friends.
Visitation is Monday, June 20, 2016 from 6:30 to 7:30 at Essex Funeral Home. Funeral services are Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 10:00 at First Baptist Church in DeWitt with Bro. Jimmy Albrecht officiating.

DeWITT — Cecil Clifford Vansandt passed away on June 30, 2014 in Little Rock, Arkansas at the VA Hospital. He was born on Feb. 23, 1926 in Ethel, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eathel Brown Vansandt and father, Wallie Havis Vansandt, sister, Juanita Vansandt Childs, brothers, Wallie ‘Dub’ Vansandt and Richard Vansandt.
Cecil was survived by his wife, Helen Irene Smith Vansandt, his son, Darryll Vansandt of DeWitt, Arkansas, daughters: Sheila Harvey of Vilonia, Arkansas, Marsha Burlack and her husband, Paul of Gainesville, Georgia, Joyce Watson of Cordova, Tennessee, Sally Simpson and her husband Larry of DeWitt, Arkansas, grandchildren: Jason Harvey, John and David Bohannon, Nicole Kitchen, Russell Watson, Irina Burlack, Angie Simpson and 11 great-grandchildren.
Cecil was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and was a Master Mason. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Italy; during this time he saw a lot of the world and loved to talk about his experiences. Cecil was a long time farmer in Ethel, Arkansas, was a businessman running Vansandt’s One Stop and performed many other jobs until he was in his early 80’s.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the funeral at 10 a.m., July 3, 2014 at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 321 West 6th St., DeWitt, Arkansas. Burial will be in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Landmark Missionary Baptist Church or Gideons International.
