MOUNT VERNON, Mo. - Wendell Orville Skinner, 85, of Mount Vernon, Mo., died Thursday, July 1, 2004, in a Mount Vernon nursing home.

Born Sept. 1, 1918, in Model, Tenn., he was the son of William and Myrtle Parker Skinner. He moved to the Lawrence County community from Lockport, N.Y., in 1965.

He established an independent Farm Bureau Insurance Agency and later retired in 1989. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II, and was a member of the Perry, N.Y., Masonic Lodge since 1958. He was of the Baptist faith.

He married Catherine Ann Boyd on Jan. 17, 1945, in Amsterdam, N.Y.

Survivors include two sons, Wendell Boyd Skinner of San Antonio, Wayne Aaron Skinner Sr. of Aransas Pass, Texas; a brother, Thurman Skinner of Batesville; four grandchildren, James Boyd Skinner, Wayne Aaron Skinner Jr., Julie Kay Skinner and Catherine "Katie" Grace Skinner; two great-grandchildren, Richard Boyd Skinner and Rebecca Marie Skinner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; seven brothers; and a sister.

The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville with Wendell Boyd Skinner and Ralph Wallis officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery in Cord. Arrangements in Mount Vernon are by Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home in Batesville.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
