Harold W. “Hal” Harris, age 75, of Magnolia, Arkansas died April 9, 2015 at home following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born at home on March 19, 1940, in Girard, Kansas to Rev. William E. and Marguerite W. Harris. In his early days, Hal worked in commercial radio. Later Hal was employed for many years by Smithy’s Food Stores. Hal retired from Secur Storage and Hervey Square Shopping Center in Hope, Arkansas as property manager.
Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Marie; three sons, Mike and wife, Jana of Stephens, Arkansas; Kevin and wife, Olga of Fort Worth, Texas; Keith and wife, Sheila of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Cheri Lynn Rainer and husband, Jay of Texarkana, Texas. Additional survivors are eight grandchildren: Ryan Rainer and wife, Jordan of Texarkana, Texas; Seth Harris of Stephens, Arkansas; Morgan Strehlow and husband, Sean of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Amanda Harris of Austin, Texas; Blake Harris of College Station, Texas; Hannah Rainer of Texarkana, Texas; Maddy Stine of Austin, Texas; and Cesar Harris of Fort Worth, Texas.
Hal is also survived by two brothers: Ray Harris and wife, Yvonne of Georgetown, Indiana, and James Harris and wife, Lucille of Springdale, Arkansas. one sister, Jean Brand and husband, Roger of Richardson, TX, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary.
Hal was a long time member of Central Baptist Church where he served as an active deacon, former Sunday school teacher, and former director of the Radio-TV ministry. He was also a past president and Lt. Governor of the Magnolia Kiwanis Club.
Hal battled cancer for over 16 years under the care of Dr. Rodney Griffin and other doctors. His final care was carried out under the direction of LifeTouch Hospice.
The memorial service will be conducted at Central Baptist Church in Magnolia at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 11, 2015 by Dr. Mike Seabaugh, Senior Pastor.
Visitation with the family will follow the Memorial service at Central Baptist Church.
A private burial at Memorial Park in Magnolia for family under the direction of Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home of Hope, Arkansas. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home, 403 South Main Street, Hope, Arkansas 71801.
