*Obituary
On January 25, 2018, Jerry Jameson Minor Lewis, formerly of Magnolia, left us to rest in the comfort of our Lord. She passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and cancer. She was 96 yrs old.
Jerry was born in Snipe, Arkansas, Columbia County, just outside of Magnolia, 7 April 1921, to James Kimbrough Jameson and Nellie Iva Cook. She resided in the Magnolia area for most of her life, marrying James Carol Minor in 1940. They had one child, Jamie Carol Minor, in 1941. Jerry was an active lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Magnolia. Although she graduated from beauty school at 19 yrs of age, she was employed by Magnolia Home Furniture Company for most of her working career.
Jerry enjoyed her last few years at Dudneywood Assisted Living, delighting in activities with her friends and feeding the outside birds, until she left to spend the remainder of her life with her granddaughter and family in Medford, New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her only child, Jamie Carol Minor, two sisters, Mary Regina Harris & Hazel Virginia Counts, as well as both husbands, James C Minor and V Lewis. She is survived by one sister, Mrs Majorie Nell Lewis of El Dorado, AR; granddaughter Jamie Jeannine Rice & husband Jason P Rice of Medford, NJ; grandson James R “Rusty” Johnson & wife Tammy Herbert Johnson of Bossier City, LA; 8 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many attentive and loving nieces and nephews that loved their Aunt Jerry very much.
Jerry was very much a “Southern Belle”, full of grace, charm, and always stylish. Her wit was present throughout her life, and always had a glow about her as she recalled her life growing up on a farm in rural southern Arkansas, milking cows! She loved to hunt and fish as much as shopping at Lois Jean’s! Jerry often volunteered at the Magnolia Hospital. She will be greatly missed, but we have all been so blessed to know her and have her in our lives, we are all the richer for it.
A celebration of life for Jerry Minor Lewis will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Magnolia, Arkansas, 26 May 2018 at 11am, with family greeting in fellowship hall to follow. Any donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Magnolia, AR.
