Evelyn Smart Gunnels, 96 of Magnolia, Arkansas formerly of McNeil, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Wentworth Place.
She was born on November 9, 1917 in Columbia County, Arkansas to the late Thomas Lester and Clara Hinton Smart. She was a member of First Baptist Church in McNeil, Arkansas and owner of the Polks General Store in McNeil.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Clyde Charles Gunnels; three brothers Guy, Lexie and Earnest Smart; and three sisters, Ruth Marlar, Margaret McIlveene, and Denise Staggs.
Evelyn is survived by her three children, Brenda Hollensworth and husband Bud of Magnolia, David Gunnels and wife Linda of Plano, Texas, and Jane Derrick and husband Tony of Sunnyvale, Texas; six grandchildren, Mike Hollensworth and wife Cheri of Magnolia, Scotty Hollensworth and wife Jessica of Benton, Arkansas, Jennifer Ball and husband Shane of Forney, Texas, Daniel Derrick and wife Brandy of Arlington, Texas, Kenny Gunnels and wife Maria of San Francisco, California, and Kelly Tompkins and wife Stacy of Frisco, Texas; eight great grandchildren, Steven Hollensworth and wife Ashley, Justin Hollensworth, Lilli Hollensworth, Henry Hollensworth, Joshua Ball, Trenton Ball, Julianna Tompkins, and Elyse Tompkins; great great grandson Hudson Hollensworth; and a sister Jessie Kegley of Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at First Baptist Church in McNeil with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm with Tony Derrick and Kyle Callaway officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. in Magnolia. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in McNeil.
Evelyn's grandsons will service as pallbearers.
