David Matthews, Jr age 67, of Port St Lucie, Florida, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2016.
David was the son of Martha and Wilson Matthews, former Associate Athletic Director of the University of Arkansas.He was a member of the Professional Golf Association and held Director of Golf and Head Golf Professional positions for over 38 years. In 2007, David was awarded in the PGA President's Council on Growing the Game. His career started out in the Georgia PGA Section at the Atlanta Country Club as an assistant to Davis Love, Jr. He was also a member of the Metropolitan PGA Section where he won the 1976 Long Island Open. David played golf at the University of Arkansas in the late 1960s.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother Scott Mathews.

David is survived by his brother Bruce Matthews of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He is also survived by his wife, of 27 years, Anna; step-daughter, Tafta Turner of Dallas, Texas; son, Matthew (and wife, Kathryn); and two granddaughters, Mallory and Callan of Orlando, Florida.

Memorial services will be 10 am, Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale with Hal Henson officiating.

Graveside service and burial will follow at 4:00 pm at Oakland Cemetery, north of Atkins Arkansas, with Rev David Bishop officiating, under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
