GRAVETTE — Walter Ira Rains, 84, of Gravette died Jan. 19, 2008, at Concordia Care Center in Bella Vista. He was born March 26, 1923, in Newport to William Rains and Hatti Holloway Rains.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Cattlemen's Association. He retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone after 35 years.

Survivors include one son, Gary Rains and wife Barbara of Rogers; two daughters, Beverly Jordan and husband Brad of Rogers and Robin Galascione and husband John of Honey Brook, Pa.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers with Dean Newberry officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Opal Mae Rains, 93 years old, of Rogers, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 16, 2017. Opal was a devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was born in Bradford, Arkansas, on November 14, 1924 to Susie and Silas Pennington.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her ex-husband Walter Ira Rains, and her 10 brothers and sisters, who welcomed her home upon her passing. Survived by those who will cherish her memory are her three children and their spouses; Gary Rains (Barbara) and Beverly Jordan (Brad), both of Rogers and Robin Galascione (John) of Honey Brook, PA; her six grandchildren, Jamie Rains, Matt Rains (Jessie), Chad Sutherland, Susan Jordan, Kendra Galascione (Mike) and Joe Galascione (Terra), her two great-grandchildren, Taylor Rains and Hunter Rains; her great-great-grandchild, Addy Rains; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Opal married Walter Ira Rains in November 1942. While Ira went to fight in World War II Opal and her family moved to California. While in California Opal worked in the shipyards – from welding & riveting to various other jobs until Ira’s discharge in 1947. Opal and Ira had many adventures during their early time together; from cutting lettuce in Arizona to gathering grapes in California, all while living in a tent. Opal always spoke fondly of those memorable times. After their return to Arkansas Opal began her career with Safeway Inc., retiring in 1986 with 23 years of service. Upon retiring Opal enjoyed traveling throughout the United States with her sisters & brother. Opal was very active in her church and loved her church family. Opal will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family & friends.

The family would like to specially recognize and express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all the wonderful and compassionate healthcare providers at Innisfree Health & Rehabilitation who treated and cared for Opal over the last several years. Visitation will be from 6-8:00pm Wednesday, December 20, 2017 in the Chapel of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Mrs. Rains Funeral service will be at 1:00pm Thursday, December, 21st in Immanuel Baptist Church of Rogers with interment to follow in Bentonville Cemetery.
