Glendon Leon Newberry passed from this life on Monday, April 10, 2017. He was born March 12, 1928 in Acklin Gap, Arkansas to Cora (McCarty) Newberry and Howel Novice Newberry. Leon was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Ann (Hamling) Newberry; his son, Michael Newberry, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Donna Newberry; grandson, Michael Newberry, Jr.; brothers, James C. Newberry, Farris D. Newberry, and sister, Clara Margaret (Newberry) Hildebrand Height.

Leon was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus . He spent many years volunteering at the St. Joseph Flea Market, benefitting St. Joseph School. Leon lived in Acklin Gap till 1935 and moved to Humnoke, Arkansas. He remained there until 1944, when he entered college, now UCA, at the age of 16. After serving in the Air Force for 18 months, from 1947-1948, he completed his college years and graduated in 1949.

He married Mary Ann (Hamling) Newberry in October 22, 1949 and they had 2 children; Michael Newberry, Sr. and Daniel Newberry. In 1950, he went into business with his uncle, Gay Newberry, owner of Newberry Parts Company. He later bought the business in 1967 and retired in 1990. Leon loved to hunt, fish, and spend time at his country home in Lo Gap.

Remaining to grieve the loss of her brother is Eva W. (Newberry) Ayres of Conway. Leon is also survived by his son: Daniel Newberry and wife, Cindy; grandson: Hunter Newberry; along with a host of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Joseph School Endowment Class of 2012.

A private family graveside service has been planned.

Mary Ann Newberry, 85, of Conway passed from this life on Saturday, June 27, 2015. She was born February 10, 1930 in Conway, Arkansas to Frank John Hamling and Hattie Zimmerman Hamling.

Mary Ann was a lifelong resident of Conway and a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the St. Joseph’s Christian Ladies. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Joseph’s School and spent many hours volunteering at the St. Joseph’s flea market. She was a homemaker who loved gardening, fishing, hunting and spending time at her country home in Low Gap.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son Michael Newberry Sr., daughter-in-law Donna Newberry, grandson Michael Newberry Jr., brothers Frank Hamling and Charles Hamling and sister Melanie Cumnock

She is survived by her husband of 65 years Leon Newberry, son Daniel Newberry and wife Cindy of Conway, grandson Hunter Newberry of Conway and sister Louise Swaffar of Conway along with a host of extended family and friends.

A rosary and visitation will be held at 10am Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am.
