J. Corbin Fernald, 67, 620 East Seventh St., died early Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 24, 1903, in Magnolia and was the son of James and Annie Laurie Lewis Fernald. Mr. Fernald was a retired employe of American Oil Co., having served more than 42 years. Starting in 1926 with American Oil, he was promoted to field personnel Manager in 1943. In 1944 he was promoted to safety supervisor, a position he held until his retirement in 1968. Mr. Fernald was a member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado, a member of The Theatre Bible Class of the First Baptist Church, past Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge No. 13 F and AM, a member of Gethsemane Commandry No. 31, Scimitar Temple and the American Society of Safety Engineers. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Giles Fernald, El Dorado; a son, James C. Fernald, Jr., El Dorado; a sister, Mrs. Bert Sturdivant, El Dorado; and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Don Harbuck officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services. Memorial may be made to the Union County Heart Fune. Active pallbearers will be G. T. Abbott, B. A. Newman, Collie Vernon, Bill Break, Paul C. Garner and Early Kinard. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. A. D. Cathey, Dr. Joe B. Wharton, Jr., Dr. Jacob Ellis, all employes of American Oil Co., and the Theatre Bible Class of the First Baptist Church. (El Dorado Times - February 8, 1971)
