Francis Author Meeks, 54, of Floral died Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Little Rock.
Born March 26, 1946, in Delphi, Ind., he was the son of Francis Ora and Wannetta Tuttle Meeks. He was a former Texas state trooper for 17 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served in the Vietnam War. During his service, he was honored with the following medals: the National Defense Service Medal; the Good Conduct Medal, which he received twice; the Vietnam Service Medal, which he received twice; and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Concord, a former licensed United Pentecostal Churches Inc. minister, a member of Arkansas Bikers Aiming Toward Education District 11 as chaplain, and a member of the Blue Knights police officer motorcycle group.
Survivors include two sons, Francis Ora Meeks II of Arizona and Joshua Aaron Meeks of Texas; a daughter, Samantha Marie Meeks of Texas; two brothers, Melvin E. Meeks of Concord and Stephen L. Meeks of Bend, Ore.; three sisters, Sylvia Arlene Hendrix of Floral, Nora Jean Wesley of Mooresville, Ind., and Carolyn Joan Thompson of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Cody Francis Zachary Meeks and Cory Franklin Author Meeks; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Apostolic Church of Concord with the Rev. Charles Hardy officiating. Burial will be at Higden-McLehaney Cemetery in Higden in Cleburne County, under the direction of Willis-Hays Funeral Service of Batesville.
Pallbearers will be Bill Hendrix, Nicholas Meeks, Perry Meeks, Jim Perrin, Rob Leonard and Kenny Tosh.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight.
