Dr. Faril Simpson, 87, of Conway, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nina Henson Simpson; brothers, Duel Simpson of Sheridan, Eulan Simpson of Bryant; sisters, Reba Smith and Leta Veasly, both of Sheridan, and Ima Thomason of Wichita Falls, Texas.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, and a brother.
His 87 years have been filled with a variety of interests, experiences and accomplishments. He served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He earned a Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate in Education and retired after a 30 year career as an instructor in UCA's Chemistry Department. He was a member of Conway Kiwanis Club for 50 years. He was a songwriter, entertainer, and has performed at many bluegrass concerts. The most recent was August 4, 2011 at the Faulkner County Library with a reunion of Okry Bluegrass Band. This group of UCA students was formed in the late 70's. His Lollie Bottoms Boys did a concert at the library on July 29, 2010. He was also a member of a bluegrass group "The Professors". He has written over 100 songs, and his repertoire of musical talents has delighted numerous audiences with his renditions, both as a band member and solo musician. He has performed with musical groups of all ages and professions throughout his career. He enjoyed life to the fullest and recently said he was ready to die, but there were things he would like to accomplish before that time. His positive attitude continued until his death.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway.
A Celebration of his life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday with visitation to follow at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Drive, Conway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Conway Cancer Foundation, 2605 College Avenue, Conway, AR 72034, or Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation, 8330 Ward Parkway, Suite 510, Kansas City, MO 64114-2000.
