When Wendell Hayden Carmichael was born on October 3, 1926, in Faulkner, Arkansas, his father, Douglas, was 23 and his mother, Flossie, was 22. He married Bobby Jo Cook on July 14, 1951, in his hometown. They had two children during their marriage. He died on December 25, 1998, in Conway, Arkansas, at the age of 72, and was buried there.
