When Mark Ortner was born on April 17, 1931, in Dallas, Texas, his father, Frank, was 20 and his mother, Annie, was 22. He married Helen Lucille Cates on November 19, 1953, in Sebastian, Arkansas. They had three children during their marriage. He died on April 13, 1991, in Monticello, Arkansas, at the age of 59, and was buried in Faulkner, Arkansas.
