BUFFALO, IA - Mervin T. Meyers Sr., 73, of Woodhull, IL, formerly of Buffalo, IA, and Newark, AR, died at 12:55 AM, Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Forrest Hill Nursing Home & Rehab Center in East Moline.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 19 at Hopewell Cemetery in Cord, AR.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday, January 16 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva.

Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mervin was born October 10, 1934 in Newark, AR, the son of John and Ruby (Sanders) Meyers. At the age of 17, Mervin lost his father, and his mother then married Len Biggers who helped raise him.

He married Dorothy V. Collins on April 30, 1957 in Harrison, AR.

Survivors include two sons, Mervin Ted (Irina) Myers Jr. of Woodhull and Ernest Duane (Angie) Meyers of Buffalo, IA, two daughters, Dorella "Dorie" Meyers of Davenport, IA and Karen Annette Meyers of Kirksville, MO, four brothers, John (Rhoda) Meyers of Oakland, AR, Lonnie (Pam) Biggers of Batesville, AR, Ken Biggers of Charlotte, AR and Ralph Biggers of Cord, AR, four sisters, Helen Corday of Park Forest, IL, Linda (John) Riddle of Halcomb, MO, Shirley Herring of Cord, AK and Frances (Lester) Halloway of Cord, AR, four granddaughters, Sophia, Lori Ann, Amanda and Bobbi, five grandsons, Phillip, Greg, Justin, Jay and Michael, four great grandsons, two great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father.

Mervin served his country in the Air Force from 1951-55.

He had lived in Buffalo, IA and had worked as an electrician for ALCOA until his retirement in July of 1994. Upon his retirement he relocated to Newark, AR. In November of 2007 he moved to Woodhull to live with his son, Ted and to be closer to other family. He was an avid bowler and had bowled in various leagues. His hobbies included camping, fishing, boating, bird watching , music and playing the guitar, banjo and accordion.
