Zelma Bowden Britton

Zelma Bowden Britton, 91 of Atkins, formerly Russellville, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at Atkins Nursing Center in Atkins.

The daughter of Edgar and Maxie Jones Bowden, she was born July 4, 1918 in Pope County. She was a retired line worker with Morton Frozen Foods.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Garland Morphis and Gene Britton; brother Burl Bowden; and sister Billie Jean Jennings.

Survivors include two sons; three grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bowden Cemetery. Richard Nelson will officiate. Burial will be at Bowden Cemetery in Pottsville by Humphrey Funeral Service.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

When Zelma Bowden Morphis Britton was born on July 4, 1918, in Pope, Arkansas, her father, Edgar, was 25, and her mother, Maxie, was 20. She married Garland Morphis on January 18, 1936, in her hometown. They had one child during their marriage. She died on November 5, 2009, in Atkins, Arkansas, at the age of 91, and was buried in Pope, Arkansas.
