Sergeant Bill N Mallett, NLRPD, (Ret), 74, of Sherwood, died Monday, November 19, 2018. He was born March 3, 1944 to Irvin and Reba Hill Mallett in Bono, Faulkner County, Arkansas. A member of Little Rock First Church of the Nazarene, Bill is also preceded in death by his brother Jimmy; mother-in-law Charlene Spence Atkinson; brother-in-law Stan Dickerson; niece, Whitney Atkinson and nephew Will Mallett.
Bill graduated from Greenbrier High School in 1962. He married Carolyn (Momma) and moved to Michigan to work for General Motors until 1966. When they found out they were expecting Craig, they moved back to Arkansas. Bill went to work at Russell Chevrolet. In 1971, Bill chose a career of service with the North Little Rock Police Department where he touched numerous lives. He was known by the nickname “Smiley”. In the 1980s, he started a business with family at Conway Grain & Supply, a feed store and grain elevator. After 20 years of service with the North Little Rock Police Department he retired and took the opportunity to go back to Russell Chevrolet as outside parts sales, traveling Arkansas. He wrapped up his career with the North Little Rock Code Enforcement Unit.
Bill’s passion was his Lord, his faith and his family. He was a faithful member of the Little Rock First Church of the Nazarene, serving as a church board member and Sunday school teacher. The last few years he served as the teacher of the Komjoynus class. Bill was also a long-time member of Gideons International, a ministry dedicated to spreading the word to the world. Bill served as president of the Gideons’ Sherwood and Jacksonville camp. After the Lord and his family, anyone who knew Bill knew he loved Chevrolets, John Deere, flying and fishing. He loved taking his sons and grandchildren to the Nascar races in Daytona each February. He was a man that was truly blessed with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Atkinson Mallett; sons Craig (Ashley) and Cary (Jan); grandchildren Christian (Yvette), Abby Hernandez (Moises), Nicholas (Kyla) and Seth (Cheyenne); great-grandchildren Olivia, Eva and Diego; brothers Frank (Carolyn Marie), Danny (Kathy), Gary (Carolyn Faith); sister Nancy Dickerson; sister-in-law Arlene; father-in-law, Ray Atkinson of Morrilton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles (Katie), Linda Jordan (Nathan), Mike (Sha-Ron), Marilyn Thomas (Bill) and Jim (Carol); along with a host of nieces and nephews, family, friends and church family.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 10:00 AM at First Church of the Nazarene, 1200 N Mississippi St, Little Rock, AR 72207. Burial will be 2:00PM at Mallett Town Cemetery in Conway County. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home, 5509 John F. Kennedy Blvd, North Little Rock, AR 72116.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Little Rock First Church of the Nazarene, Gideons International or the Soaring Wings Ranch, Whitney Atkinson Home.
