Keith L. Dowell, age 84, of Rogers died Dec. 23, 2013, at the Willard Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville. He was born in Monterrey Park, Calif., on March 31, 1929, to Carl and Opal (Kinser) Dowell.
Keith served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1949, he married Martha Gaines, and 10 years later he moved his family to Rogers from Miami, Okla., and sold mobile homes and used cars.
In 1963, he and Charlie Banks started Beacon Realty, where they were very successful in building and developing real estate in Northwest Arkansas. In the early '70s until the late '90s, he owned and operated motels in Rogers and Bentonville.
Keith worked hard and played hard! He was an avid golfer and enjoyed his many hours on the golf course...all 19 holes! When asked by his son-in-law what he enjoyed he said, "working hard and making money."
He is survived by his children, Beth Holmes and husband, Bob, of Rogers, Sam Dowell and wife, Jane, of Carmel, Calif., Kathryn Dowell of Rogers; grandchildren, Beau Reed and wife, Jessica, Kristyn Lawson and husband, Levi, Nicole Dowell of Carmel, Calif.; and great-grandchildren, Noah Reed, Kamryn and Ciera Lawson.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Rollins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Rollins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Willard Walker Hospice House in Fayetteville or to Alzheimer's Arkansas.
