Henry Frank Griffin, 71, of 1102 Champagnolle St., died in a local hospital Saturday night after a long illness. Born in Union County, North Carolina, Oct. 9, 1883, he was the son of William Hampton and Lillie Simpson Griffin. He had been a resident of El Dorado since 1936. He was a retired merchant, having operated the Champagnolle Grocery until his retirement. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church and a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Perrett Urbana, two step sons, Guy Bates, El Dorado and Grady Bates, Houston, Tex., seven sisters, Miss Georgia Mae Griffin, Mrs. Carl Griffin, Mrs. Grady Hargett, Mrs. George Brooks and Mrs. Marshall Perry, all of North Carolina, two brothers, Jack Griffin and Crawford Griffin, both of North Carolina, and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Rumph Chapel with Elder Sandage and Elder W. B. Browning officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers were Frank Prothro, Fred Gathright, Carl Prince, Neil Kirk, Welcome Barnett and L. J. Hines. (The El Dorado Times - September 27, 1965)
