Alwyn B. Coleman

Alwyn Boyce Coleman, 80, of Batesville died Monday, June 16, 2003, at his home.

Born May 2, 1923, at Parkin, he was the son of Alwyn Boyce Coleman Sr. and Katie Mae Dickey Coleman. He was a retired Chief Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He moved to Batesville in 1973 after retiring from the Air Force. He was pastor of Northside Baptist Church (now Parkview Baptist Church), Newark Southern Baptist Church and Strawberry Southern Baptist Church. He retired from the ministry in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Louise Coleman; two sons, Edward Coleman of Solvang, Calif., and Charles Coleman, stationed with the U.S. Navy in Japan; a sister, Peggy Lamb of Oxford, Miss.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William Carroll Coleman; and a sister, Elizabeth Baxter.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Hopewell Cemetery at Cord with S.D. Hacker officiating. Arrangements are by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Bennett, Woody Pleasants, Don Smith Sr., Rusty Smith and Butch Stevens.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
