Afton Edmon Branscum, 59, of Newark died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Newport.

Born Feb. 23, 1943, in Rosie, he was the son of Ulis Branscum and Ruby McClain Branscum. He worked in construction, served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen Branscum; two sons, William Perry Allen and wife Reba of Magness and Edmon Keith Branscum of Newark; three daughters, Teresa Darlene McBride and husband Stephen of Salado, Melissa Gail Nguyen and husband Tri of Newark and Kelly Lawrence of Newark; four brothers, Glen Branscum of Batesville, Shelby Branscum and Craig Branscum, both of Gainesboro, and Ted Branscum of Newark; three sisters, Ethlene Looney, Ona Jackson and Beulah Branscum, all of Newark; and three grandchildren, Robin Michelle McBride, Christal Lynn McBride and Daniel Wayne Branscum.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Anthony Wayne Branscum; a daughter, Jennifer Lee Branscum; and a sister, Ula Mae Branscum.

The funeral was at 10 a.m. today at Cord Baptist Church. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery at Cord with arrangements by Willis-Hays Funeral Service of Batesville.

Pallbearers were Stephen McBride, Tri Nguyen, Stevie Looney, Aaron Moss, Lance Moss, Tommy Williams and Marty Honea.

Memorials may be made to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.
