Per obituary; For injury sustained during the Korean War, Mr. Dickey was awarded The Purple Heart, which he did not receive until fifty years after the war. Friends, Mr. Dewey Henderson and Representative Marion Berry assisted him receiving the medal.

Mr. Eugene L. Dickey of Cord departed this life on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Batesville, Arkansas, at the age of 80. He was born May 15, 1931, at Cord, the son of Dowell Berry and Esther Lee (Davis) Dickey.
Mr. Dickey married Miss Marian Faye Baker on November 15, 1952. After attending the Draughon School of Radio from 1952 to 1953, he and Mrs. Dickey moved to Oklahoma City where he began his career as a Radio Station Transmitter Engineer with KTOK in Oklahoma City. He worked for KTOK until 1956, when he accepted a position as a Television Station Transmitter Engineer with KATV in Little Rock. At that time the transmitter was located in Redfield and the family made their home in Pine Bluff where they raised their daughters and lived for thirty years. While at KATV, Mr. Dickey directed several shows out of the Pine Bluff studio including The Bozo Show, Pine Bluff First Baptist Church Sunday worship service, and wrestling events.
Upon his retirement in 1986, Mr. and Mrs. Dickey moved to their family farm in Cord. After moving to the farm, he enjoyed many hours of "windshield farming," planting trees and food plots for the animals, driving his tractor, and fishing. Mr. Dickey shared these joys with his grandchildren, teaching them to drive and fish. He also enjoyed singing and teaching his grandchildren songs. Mr. Dickey's hobbies also included hunting in his younger years, coin collecting, and making model airplanes that actually flew.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and enjoyed sharing stories of his experiences with family and friends. Mr. Dickey was a lifetime member of the DAV. For injury sustained during the Korean War, Mr. Dickey was awarded The Purple Heart, which he did not receive until fifty years after the war. Friends, Mr. Dewey Henderson and Representative Marion Berry assisted him receiving the medal.
He was a devoted member of the Tuckerman Church of Christ. Through the years Mr. Dickey has taught Bible classes to fifth and sixth grade boys and for many years the Adult Men's Class. Mr. Dickey was a devoted student of the Bible and enjoyed teaching and discussing the Bible.
Mr. Eugene L. Dickey, affectionately known as Peck, was known and will be remembered for his kind and generous spirit, his great love of his country, his friends, his church family, his family, and his Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Alonzo, Cleo, Alvis "Cat", Narvil "Short", Clifton "Pete", and James Wesley; and one sister, Mary Magadelene (Bill) Hyde.
Mr. Dickey is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Marian Faye (Baker) Dickey of the home; two daughters, Rebecca Diane Vaughn-Holsted and husband Bruce of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Patricia Lee Bates and husband Larry of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; one brother, Thurman "Dump" Dickey of Cord, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Nick Vaughn and wife Natalie, Justin Bates, and Meagan Bates; one great-grandchild, Neela Kate Vaughn; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday evening, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Friday at Tuckerman Church of Christ with interment in Hopewell Cemetery at Cord.
