Margie Churchill
September 14, 1930 - November 30, 2017

Margie Churchill, 87, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, formerly of Cord, Arkansas, went to be with her Lord on November 30, 2017, in Fayetteville.

She was born in Moundridge, Kansas on September 14, 1930, to Albert and Mary Fast. She was the younger of two children.

Margie and her family moved to Cord when she was three years old. She graduated from Cord-Charlotte High School in 1946 and attended Arkansas College in Batesville. There she received a B.A. degree in elementary education. She also completed some courses toward her master's degree. Margie was a wonderful and much loved teacher and taught first, second, and third grades for 34 years at Cord-Charlotte Elementary School. She retired in 1991. She said she knew it was time to retire when she began teaching the children and grandchildren of students she had taught earlier in her career. One of her proudest accomplishments was teaching two of the Vietnamese refugees who were relocated to Charlotte and spoke no English. Both students later graduated from high school as valedictorian and salutatorian.

Margie was married to Ewell Churchill on September 3, 1949. He was the postmaster and store owner in Cord. Margie often helped out there in the summers when she wasn't teaching. They were married over 45 years. They had one son, David, who lives in Fayetteville.

Margie moved to Fayetteville in 2003 to be closer to her family. Margie was an avid reader. She was an accomplished writer of short stories and poetry. She loved to play the piano and was the church pianist throughout her life in Cord. Margie was a sweet, gentle soul who never met a stranger and genuinely cared about everyone she met. Margie was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Penny; her two grandchildren, Reed and Cameron; her nephews, Wayne and Allen Fast; and her close friend, Pete Schaller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Ewell" Churchill; her parents, Albert H. and Mary Lattscher Fast; and her brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Martha Fast.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2017, at Cord Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Mitchell, Rev. Jeff Childers, and Rev. Bobby Coleman officiating.
