When Sarah Houston Ashley was born on October 29, 1853, in Owensboro, Kentucky, her father, Cornelius, was 38, and her mother, Susan, was 28. She married William Royal Ashley in 1874 in Conway, Arkansas. They had one child during their marriage. She died on March 20, 1909, in Atkins, Arkansas, at the age of 55, and was buried there.
