James “Jay” Hurd, 83, of Dyer passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, in his home.
He was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Dyer to the late Thurman and Nora Hurd.

He was a retired carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheilla Jane Smith; a son-in-law, Larry M. Smith; a sister, Iva Lee Nuckles; and brother, Thurman Hurd Jr.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Chapel with committal at 1:30 p.m. at Dyer Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.

He is survived by his wife, Melba of the home; a daughter, Alta Wilson and husband Z.C. of Bella Vista; three grandchildren, James Hamilton and wife Tracy of Dallas, Lynnetta Penson and husband Travis of Fayetteville and Andrea Wilson-Woods and husband Corey of Burbank, Calif.; and five greatgrandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Lewis, Ronnie Hatley, Donnie Wise, James Hamilton, Johnnie Dickerson and Corey Woods.
