William Kenneth McIver Jr., 89, of Dyer passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, in a local hospital.
He was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Elgin, Ill., to the late William Kenneth and Irene (Cooper) McIver Sr.

He received a scholarship for music from Notre Dame, but chose instead to answer the call to be an ordained Southern Baptist minister. He pastored many churches in several states for more than 60 years. He graduated Taylor University in Upton, Ind., and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. William “Bill” was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy. He was an avid bird watcher, fisherman, astronomy buff, gardener and beekeeper.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Donald McIver.

Private memorial service will be Thursday at Dyer Cemetery pavilion.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo McIver of the home; four daughters, LaDonna McIver of Dyer, Elizabeth Kindle of Fort Smith, Susan Malicoat of Red Oak, Okla., and Melody McIver of Van Buren; a son, David Larry McIver of Dyer; a sister, Betty May Willson of Neosho, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
