When Ona Ethel Burris was born on January 16, 1916, in Pope, Arkansas, her father, William, was 34, and her mother, Malissie, was 24. She married Chalmus Bud Magar on December 12, 1936. They had three children during their marriage. She died on May 9, 2013, in Hattieville, Arkansas, at the age of 97, and was buried in Old Hickory, Arkansas.
