When Johnston Thornton was born on May 9, 1814, in Pike, Georgia, his father, Wiley, was 29 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 29. He married Elizabeth 'Eliza' Marjorie Martin on January 10, 1832. They had six children in 10 years. He died on November 7, 1875, in Old Hickory, Arkansas, at the age of 61, and was buried in Hattieville, Arkansas.
