John Oscar Carlon, age 70, of Green Forest, AR departed this life Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 with his family by his side. He was born on Aug. 13, 1941 in Yuba City, CA to the late Olen "Cos" Carlon and Walsie Lee (Beeson) Carlon Young. He grew up in Hattieville, AR.

He served in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable dischare. On Nov. 29, 1963 he married Lola Jean Clark. John worked as a salesman for Ozark Sash and Door out of Springdale and had also worked as a wastewater treatment operator for the city of Green Forest. He was associated with the Assembly Of God Church. He was skilled in carpentry and had built some houses in the past. He loved country music shows, working outside and spending time with his family. John earned a much deserved reputation as a hard worker during his life.

John is survived by his wife, Lola Jean Carlon of the home; daughter, Lisa Carlon of Springfield, MO; brothers, Vann Carlon, Jerry Carlon and wife Gayle of Morrilton, Tommy Carlon and wife Cheryl of Friendswood, TX; and a host of family and friends who loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, James Young.

Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Hattieville First Baptist Church (Hattieville, AR). Brother Billy Burris will officiate with interment following at Old Hickory Cemetery (Old Hickory, AR). Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at Smith Family Funeral Home in Green Forest, AR. Online condolences at smithfamilyfuneralhome.net
