Walnut Ridge Emil “Peaberry” Harold Smelser, 78 died Saturday, August 27, 2011, in Walnut Ridge. He was born June 17, 1933 in Lafe, Arkansas to Willard and Minta Cooper Smelser.

He had lived in Lawrence County most of his life, was self-employed as a plumber and a member of the Main Street Church of Christ.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by wife, Shirley Smelser of the home; sons, Kevin Smelser and Melissa, Kyle Smelser and wife Michelle all of Walnut Ridge; four grandchildren, Alexa Gann and husband Nathan of Ravenden, Jerimy Smelser and Crystal, Drake Smelser and Maci Smelser all of Walnut Ridge and two great grandchildren, Cooper Smelser and Bailey Mashburn.

Visitation will be Tuesday 5 – 8 pm at the Main Street Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at the Main Street Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge with Rob Combs and Ed Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers: Rex Hart, Jim Pominville, Button Wallin, Nathan Crafton, Chris Tate and Lester Herring.

Honorary: J.R. Rogers, John Fears, Bob Moody, Richard “ChooChoo” Owens, Jewell Woodson, Don Sluder, A.J. Henry, Ryan Saulsbury, Ben Purdue and Dennis Coggins.

Walnut Ridge-Shirley Jean Smelser 75 passed from this life Sunday in Jonesboro. She was born November 7, 1936 in Egypt to Claude Ernest and Mary Lee Harvey Foster. She died, January 29, 2012, in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She had lived most of her life in Lawrence County, was owner of Smelser Plumbing and a member of the Main Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Emil “Peaberry” Smelser; step-mother, Betty Brewster; sister, Mazilee Foster; brother, Jack Foster; step-brother, Raymond Chapman and step-sister, Loise Zigler

She is survived by two sons, Kevin Smelser and Melissa, Kyle Smelser and wife Michelle all of Walnut Ridge; sisters, Betty Lou Forkum of Walcott; Virginia Barron of Jonesboro; brothers, Jim Foster of Chadwick, Ill, Harold Foster of Holland, Mi; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at the Main Street Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge with Rob Combs and Ed Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Visitation is Tuesday from 6-8 pm also at Main Street Church of Christ in Walnut Ridge.

Pallbearers: Ryan Saulsberry, Button Wallin, Rex Hart, Lester Herring, Nathan Crafton and Dennis Coggins.
