John Elbert Hamaker, 88, Rt. 1, Smackover, died Sunday at an El Dorado nursing home following a lengthy illness. He was born at New Edinburg, Dec. 30, 1882, and was the son of William J. and Lollie Barker Hamaker. He had been a resident of Smackover since 1921 and was a former employe of Arkansas Natural Gas Co. and Sklar Oil Co. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Smackover. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Augie B. Ogles Hamaker, Smackover; six sons, C. J. Hamaker, Shreveport, La., Horace Hamaker, Smackover, John L. Hamaker and Frank Hamaker , both of Little Rock, Willard Hamaker, Crossett, and Otha Hamaker, Stuttgart; three brothers, Claude Hamaker, Magnolia, Buster Hamaker, Warren, and Clark Hamaker, Leesville, La.; three sisters, Mrs. Robbie Mitchell, Mrs. Harry Strand, and Mrs. Glen Powledge, all of El Dorado; and 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Banks Baptist Church in Banks with the Rev. Herman Grigsby officiating. Burial will be in McFarland Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Allen Nugent, Glen Gordon, Eugene Walker, Wayne Harper, Lee Roy Hamaker and Herb Conatser. The family will be at the Horace Hamaker residence in Smackover. (El Dorado Times - February 8, 1971)
