John D. Chapman, 84, of Arkana passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2007. Visitation will be 12:00-9:00PM. Funeral services will 2:00PM Saturday at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charlie Howard officiating, interment in Burnt Schoolhouse Cemetery.
Mr. Chapman was born to Ossaroo and Frances Sanders Chapman on March 28, 1942 in Culp and they were lifetime area residents. John served in the US Army during World War II, fought at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds suffered in France. After returning from the Army, John worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers until his retirement.
A member of the Church of Christ, John is best remembered for his sense of humor and easygoing manner; his love of the outdoors and gardening; his enjoyment of hunting and fishing; but most of all for his love of family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were a special joy to him.
He is survived by his son, Glenn (Aileen) Chapman of Arkana; daughters Roberta (Jerry) of Clarksridge and Vivian (Delbert) McCutchen of Flippin; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Norman Chapman; son-in-law Elmer Rosson; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Bernice, an infant daughter, daughter Linda Rosson, son Jerry Chapman, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks.
