Mary Elizabeth Johnson, age 90, of Banks, Arkansas died Thursday, March 17, at Regional Hospital, Tomball, Texas. She was born February 7, 1915 at Banks, Arkansas a daughter of the late Henry Ernest Humble and Hettie Smith Humble

Three brothers Asa Henry Humble, Ray Ernest Humble and Hugh Ned Humble preceded her in death.

Mrs. Johnson received her education in the El Dorado and Banks Public School Systems and Arkansas A & M College. She was a dedicated social worker with the Arkansas Social Services and provided loving care for foster children in Bradley County Arkansas. For many years, Elizabeth was a postal clerk at the Banks Post Office. She raised walking horses, showing them in competition in Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, where several of her animals won grand Champion and State Champion ribbons and trophies.

She was a member of the Banks Presbyterian Church and in 1932 she married Leith Samuel Johnson who died September 5, 1988. Survivors include a son Phillip A. Johnson and spouse Nancy, Pinehurst, Tex; two brothers Robbie Humble and spouse Gini, Napa, California and Jimmy Humble and spouse Sarah, El Dorado, Ark; a sister Freda Acton and spouse Alfred, El Dorado, Ark; two sisters-in-law Shirley Humble, El Dorado, Ark and Dorothy Humble, Santa Fe, NM; a grandson Phillip "Boomer" Johnson, Jr. and spouse Tiina, Houston, Tex; two great-granddaughters Inka Johnson and Niki Johnson and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elizabeth had a great zest for life and compassion for others especially children and animals, with a special emphasis on horses.

Funeral services were 1:30 pm Monday, March 21, at Banks Presbyterian church with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Lawana Mann was pianist. Burial was in McFarland Cemetery at Banks by Frazer's Funeral Home of Warren. Active pallbearers were Phillip Johnson, Jr., Richard Humble, Dale Humble, Jeff Hupp, Jeff Johnson and Robert Franklin.
