When Odessa Garrison Whisonant was born on December 15, 1911, in Morrilton, Arkansas, her father, Zackeriah, was 24, and her mother, Dora, was 21. She married John Whisonant on February 8, 1933. They had two children during their marriage. She died on June 5, 1988, in Hammond, Indiana, at the age of 76, and was buried in her hometown.
