When John Whisonant was born on December 14, 1885, in Morrilton, Arkansas, his father, Johnathan, was 23 and his mother, Millie, was 18. He married Odessa Garrison Whisonant on February 8, 1933. They had two children during their marriage. He died on March 24, 1969, in his hometown at the age of 83, and was buried there.
