Lenora Emmiline Atkinson, age 87, of Center Ridge, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012. She was the youngest and only remaining child of O.B. and Sara Elizabeth Hogue.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ivan Atkinson, and one son Walter Edwards of Center Ridge; two sisters and three brothers Velma Patton, Lester Hogue, Dovie Mitchell, Irple Hogue and Delmas Hogue. She leaves behind a daughter Brenda Simmons (Ed) of Benton; two sons Tommy Atkinson (Kathy) of Center Ridge, and Steve Atkinson of Center Ridge; eight grandchildren, Ashley Simmons, Lindsay Simmons, Jonathan Lawson, Amanda Atkinson, Amelia Atkinson, Jacque Andrews; six great-grandchildren and two nieces, Marie Charton and Charlene Carter of Overcup; one nephew Benny Robinson.
Lenora was a homemaker who loved her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and meals were looked forward to with great delight. She enjoyed her life and especially enjoyed the time working with the Area Agency on Aging for many years. While working with the agency she received many awards and found great joy in working with her clients, cooking, talking and caring for them. She was a member of the Springfield Church of Christ for many years. She also enjoyed attending Grandview Church of Christ and Harding Street Church of Christ.
Family comments: Mother enjoyed a long healthy life and we were dearly blessed to have her all these years. At 87 years old she fought a courageous and brave battle against cancer.
The family wishes to thank all her friends along with her church family who have been faithful in their support and prayers during her illness. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Mendelsohn and staff along with CHOPS at Conway, Dr. Hagan's and staff, Dr. Lipsmeyer and staff, CARTI, the 10th floor nurses and aides at Baptist Health, and Arkansas Hospice for all their support and kindness during her illness.
Funeral services will be10 a.m., Friday, October 5, at the Harris Chapel with Charles Bane officiating. Burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Online guestbook: www.harrisfuneralhomes.net.
