Sarah Bratton Humble, 87 of El Dorado, made her transition to her heavenly home Wednesday, January 17, 2018 where she gained her seat in God’s heavenly choir. She was born to Gordon and Joycie Bratton on August 14, 1930 in Lake Village.
She united in marriage with Jimmy Humble on July 5, 1948 and spent 62 years with him before he was called home. Together they raised four children. Sarah worked for many years at the El Dorado House Downtown where she never met a stranger. She was a longtime member of West Side Baptist Church where she taught junior high girls Sunday school and went on many youth choir tours from the very first one to when her youngest graduated from high school. She was also a faithful member of the adult choir which she loved dearly. She also had a great love for her grandchildren, especially watching her grandsons play basketball where she would frequently end up on the bench with the team, helping out the coach. She had a very distinctive laugh that her children, and anyone that knew her, would recognize from across the room, and sometimes her kids would use it to locate her in the store if they became separated. She loved to laugh and fellowship with her family and friends.
When she arrived in Heaven she was greeted by her husband, Jimmy Humble, her parents, and two brothers, Wayne and Gaylon Bratton.
Survivors include her four children, Rick Humble and his wife Martha of El Dorado, Pam Humble of Little Rock, Don Humble and his wife Renee of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Barbara Murchison and her husband Warner of El Dorado. Her brothers Bill Bratton and his wife Gloria of Crystal Beach, Texas, Jim Bratton and his wife Sue of Banks, and Andy Bratton and his wife Gail of El Dorado. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jamie Humble, Patrick and John Gilkey, Ethan and Sarah Murchison, Amy Davis, Jacob Franks, Levi Funderburg, Jason and Jonathan Smith and Jessica Melerine; twelve great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Frances Bratton, Virginia Humble and Freda Acton and husband Alfred; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Young’s.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Sam Whitlow and Rev. Gerald Perry officiating. Burial will follow at McFarland Cemetery in Banks under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
