Mr. Odie Charles McFarland, Sr., 75, of Bastrop, Louisiana, died Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop. Mr. McFarland was a native of Banks, Arkansas; a resident of Bastrop, Louisiana for the past five years and a former resident of Crossett for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an Electrician for Georgia-Pacific Plywood Mill for over 30 years having retired in 1997.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Ingrid HohmA�nn McFarland; his parents, Odie Clarence McFarland & Helen Landreth Smith; and a sister, Juanita Harmon.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Fleming McFarland, of Bastrop, Louisiana; a son, Odie McFarland, Jr., and wife, Kim, of Hamburg; three daughters, Donna Steed of McComb, Mississippi; Nita Morgan and Nancy Varnell both of Crossett; four sisters, Julie Brown of Moro Bay; Margie Craig of Los Angeles, California; Lois Smith of Freeport Texas and Ranona Harmon of Fort Smith; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. John Williams and Rev. Keith Boseman officiating. Burial will be in the McFarland Cemetery in Banks, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Mike Brantley, Todd Moffatt, Matthew Culp, Mike Stanley, Steve Childers and Timmy Smith. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, 803 Ashley 95 Road, Hamburg, AR 71646.
