Gary McFarland, age 75 of Banks, Arkansas died Thursday, November 21 at St Vincent’s, Little Rock. He was born November 25, 1937 at Banks, Arkansas a son of the late Curtis McFarland and Claudia Johnston McFarland. He received his education in the Banks Public School System, was a graduate of Warren High School and held a degree in Journalism from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He served in the US Army. Mr. McFarland was a former Mayor of Banks with over 20 years of service, the founder of Buck Fever Festival receiving an award from the Bradley County Chamber of Commerce for the best Buck Fever Festival. He was the former owner of Budget Rent a Car, Denver, Colorado and was the owner of McFarland General Store of Banks. He was also preceded in death by a sister Donna Lee McFarland, his maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Johnston and paternal grandparents Auburn and Hattie Smith McFarland. Surviving is an uncle Roy Herbert McFarland, Jefferson, Texas; 3 aunts May Dean Sweatman, Banks, Arkansas, Bobbie Sue Whisenhunt, Fort Smith, Arkansas and Nelsie Bershen, Monroe, Louisiana. Many cousins also survive. Funeral Services were 1:30pm Monday, November 25, at McFarland Cemetery Arbor with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Burial was in McFarland Cemetery at Banks by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were cousins. Memorials preferred to McFarland Cemetery, c/o Ginger Ricks, Treasurer, 125 Bradley 377, Banks, Arkansas 71613.
