Donald Spitler, 89, of Mulberry died Friday, October 1, 2010, at Sparks-Peachtree Palliative Care Unit in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was an electrician, a member of Mulberry First United Methodist Church, for which he was Sunday school superintendent, and Lions Club, where he was past district governor. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 4th Armored Division Europe as a medium tank crewman, received two overseas service bars, distinguished unit badge, good conduct medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with three bronze battle bars and a World War II Victory medal.He is survived by his wife, Laura; a daughter, LeeAnna Gerst of Masonville, Colorado; 2 sons, Lawrence Spitler of Barling and L Spitler of Westminster, Colorado; a sister, Helen Stone of Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Seth, Evan and David Spitler, Joel Gueck, Douglas Spitler II and Dave Smalley.

Laura Loretta Spitler, 93 of Mulberry passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and past Librarian at the Mulberry Library and a member of Library friends, author of published books “Gem of the Mt Valley” and “How Firm a Foundation” and a tutor of Laubach Literacy Council of Crawford County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mulberry. A past teacher of Upper Room Sunday School Class, Director of Arkansas Chapter of New England Women and past president and chaplain of Colonial Dames of the DVII Century Bell Point Chapter, past regent and Chaplain of NSDAR of Fort Smith and a member of the board of Director United Methodist Historical Society and Questers International. She was a resident of Mulberry since 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Spitler and 1 son, L Douglas Spitler; both parents, C I and Dovie Wise Stratton and 2 sisters and 4 brothers. She is survived by a daughter, LeeAnna Gerst and husband, Martin of Masonville, Colorado; 1 son, Larry Spitler and wife, Patricia of Barling; 1 brother, Sidney Mac Stratton of Burlington, Iowa; 1 daughter-in-law, Jolene Spitler of Westminister, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Seth, Evan and David Spitler, Joel Gueck
