SAWREY, William Thomas - William Thomas Sawrey was born in Benton county, Ark. November 8, 1854 and passed from this life February 25, 1926 at the age of 71 years, three months and eighteen days. He grew to manhood and spent his entire life [with the exception of one year in Illinois) on the farm on which he lived at the time of his death. At the age of 28 years he was married June 13, 1883 to Martha Cynthia King and to this union was born six children. One son and one daughter died in infancy and three daughters, Miss Mauda Sawrey and Mrs. Vena Barnes, both of Rogers, and Mrs. Linda Gilmore of Glen Eden, Kansas, and one son, Neil Sawrey of Cave Springs, remain with an innumerable host of friends who mourn the irreparable loss of a loving and considerate father and true friend, his companion having preceded him in death five years ago. "Uncle Tom," the name he has borne in late years, had been a sufferer of rheumatism for 12 years but had not been seriously ill until the past nine days. He was converted to the Gospel of our Lord at an early age and united with the Mt. Hebron church of which he was a member at his death. He had not been an active church worker of late years on account of his physical disabilities but had never wavered from a living faith in a living God. He was patient in his sufferings and often expressed the hope that all was well. He was ever a champion of honesty, truth and righteousness and bitterly opposed to everything unfair, unclean and impure. His life needs no eulogy for being an old settler his life and character stands out as a monument and he leaves an influence invaluable to the community where he lived. In the passing of Uncle Tom Sawrey Benton county loses one of its most loved and respected citizens.
