SPRINGDALE — Waunell Ruth Owen, 47, of Springdale passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, in Springdale.
She was born Dec. 28, 1965, in Siloam Springs, the daughter of Lee and Patricia Howard Owen.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fayetteville, an educator for many years, Bentonville, and currently first-grade teacher at John Tyson Elementary School in Springdale. Waunell had received several awards as a teacher, with one being State Teacher of Year. She was a very special daughter, aunt and friend, avid dog lover.
She was preceded in death by her dog, Jalee.
Survivors include her parents, Lee and Patricia Owen of Fayetteville; two sisters, Jauwana Owen of Farmington, and Christy Edwards and husband, Steven, of Goshen; four nieces, Jordan Smith and husband, Reb, Brandee Byrd, Madilyn Edwards and Mallory Edwards; one nephew, Gunner Edwards; two great-nieces, Blakelee Smith and Charnning Smith; and two dogs, Bobbie Soxx and Puppy Lovins.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Beard's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville, with Dr. Doug Falknor officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials made be made American Diabetes Association or the animal shelter of your choice.
