Mary Parker was born into slavery. She was of African American and Seminole Indian descent.

She married James D "Jim" Parker in 1868. The couple migrated from Blacksburg, South Carolina, to Washington Township in Conway County, Arkansas.

Her children born in Blacksburg were Cynthia, Ida, George Washington, Eliza, James Walter, John Pinkoney, Nancy, Dennis Morgan and Sarah. The children born in Conway County, Arkansas, were Smith Oziar, Thomas, William, Albert and Frances.
