When Willa Dean Moses was born on December 7, 1932, in Texas, her father,Ollie Umphory Moses 1892–1973, was 40, and her mother, Emma Hazel Mahan 1910–2006, was 22. She married Norvin Irol Gosnell on September 10, 1948. They had five children during their marriage. She died on February 13, 1998, in Center Ridge, Arkansas, at the age of 65, and was buried there.
