When Esther Ellen Bird- McNew was born on April 9, 1911, in Conway, Arkansas, her father, Samuel, was 17, and her mother, Rosa, was 23. She had seven brothers and two sisters. She died on March 8, 1980, in Lee, Florida, at the age of 68, and was buried in Center Ridge, Arkansas.
