Nellie Elizabeth (Hatfield) Qualls

Nellie Elizabeth Hatfield Qualls, 89, of Mount Pleasant died Monday, January 11, 2010 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Melbourne.

She was born June 5, 1920 in the Gainsboro area, near Batesville and was the daughter of Ernest Hatfield and Estelee Helm Hatfield.

Nellie was a member of the Barren Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant.

She was married to Maurice (Judge) Qualls on December 24, 1939 by Rev. Wilson Taylor and to this union, was born one son, Jerry Dean Qualls. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, gardening, quilting, cooking, and taking care of her son.

Survivors include one sister, Ernestine Phillips of Richardson Texas; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.


Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice (Judge) Qualls; her son, Jerry Dean Qualls; one brother, Hugh Hatfield; and two sisters: Edith McSpadden and Eva Marlin.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Qualls, Shelby Qualls, Tim Hatfield, Willie Willbanks, Curtis Mynatt, Barry Bray, Jeremy Spohr, and Jack Helm.

Honorary pallbearers are Pam Willbanks, Shawna Willbanks, Katherine Kelly, Bill Sipes, Gerald Screws, Mike Garner, Dean Mynatt, Jon Spohr, Michael Pollard, Trever Hatfield, Euell Hatfield, Jimmy Allen Erwin, Harold Marlin, Harold Wayne Marlin, James Marlin, Kenny Qualls, Bob Spohr, Jack Scott, Eric Terry, the members of Barren Fork Presbyterian Church, Dr. Bob Slaughter, Dr. Adam Gray, the staff of the Pioneer Nursing Home, Marshall Hatfield, Lillian Robins, Ricky Pittman, Steve Qualls, Dennis Dobbs, and Linda Prey.

Funeral services were at the Barren Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Bruce Qualls officiating.

Burial followed the service at Barren Fork Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.
