Grace (Ferguson) Johnson

MOUNT PLEASANT — Grace Ferguson Johnson, 95, of Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Batesville.

Born June 5, 1915, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Marion Joseph Ferguson and Mary Frances Brooks Ferguson.

She was a homemaker and was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a member of the Izard County Home Demonstration Club and won grand champion ribbons for her canning in the Izard County Fair. She enjoyed cooking, especially blackberry cobbler and fried chicken.

Survivors include two sons, Odell Johnson of Stover, Mo., and George Johnson of Melbourne; a daughter, Inez Melton of Kansas City, Kan.; five grandchildren, Allen Melton, Dana Monroe, Kenya Wyatt, Michael Johnson and James Johnson; and several nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Austin Johnson; three brothers, Chester Ferguson, Verdell Ferguson and Vernon Ferguson; and four sisters, Myrtle Lewis, Zelma Alexander, Ethel Walker and Jewell Bray.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roller-Crouch Funeral Home Chapel in Melbourne.

Burial will be in Barren Fork Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
