& in the Guion News By Jaydine Morton in the same newspaper:

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT: We can endure trials in this life because of the joys in the life to come.
VaRue Guthrie and Jaydine Morton attended the Memorial Service for Doug Malone of the Old Joe Community Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Historic Galatia Church. Doug was the son of the late "Bud" and Sallie Malone of the Old Joe Community. He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home, four children, and three grandchildren. Hazel May and Anna Kemp are his aunts and they, along with Marilyn Bagwell planned and carried out the services. It was impressive and many relatives and friends attended. Doug had liver, lung, and bone cancer. He was told last March that he had waited too long to be cured. He was at the VA Hospital, but he requested to die at home so Thursday he arrive home about 3:00 p.m. and he died Friday morning about 3: a.m.
